The Parish Development Model (PDM), a government wealth creation initiative continues to transform lives across Uganda, providing financial support to individuals seeking to uplift themselves from poverty.
Last week on Friday, February 28, the ONC Regional Coordinator for Busoga, Ms. Kyanika Rehema, alongside Regional Muzzukulu Coordinator, Mr. Kisoma Samuel, visited one such beneficiary, Ms. Namusubya Joyce, in Mayuge District’s Mpungwe Subcounty, Wairama Parish, Munyonyi Village.Joyce, a young and ambitious woman, received 960,000 UGX through Finance Trust Bank as part of the government’s PDM initiative.
Determined to put the funds to good use, she carefully invested in multiple ventures. She used 600,000 UGX to purchase a cow, ensuring she has a sustainable source of milk and potential income in the future. Additionally, she spent 100,000 UGX on a goat, an asset that can multiply over time, further boosting her financial stability.
Recognizing the importance of agriculture, she allocated the remaining 260,000 UGX into cassava farming on a half-acre piece of land, betting on food security and future profits. However, like many rural small-scale farmers, Joyce faced challenges, particularly the limitation of land for her growing livestock.
To address this, she made the strategic decision to relocate her cow and goat to her sister’s home in Kayanja, Malongo, where there is ample space for them to graze and grow. Joyce’s foresight and resilience demonstrate the spirit of hard work and commitment that PDM seeks to cultivate among Ugandans.
The ONC coordinators commended her for her wise financial choices and determination to improve her livelihood. “Joyce’s story is a perfect example of how PDM is changing lives. She is making every shilling count, ensuring that her investment will benefit her household in the long run,” said Ms. Kyanika.
About PDM
The Parish Development Model, launched by President Yoweri Museveni’s government in 2022 is designed to push resources to the grassroots, empowering local communities to drive their own economic progress.
The programme prioritizes financial inclusion, agricultural growth, and wealth creation, aiming to lift 39% of Ugandan households engaged in subsistence farming into the money economy.
With her dedication and strategic investments, Joyce embodies the success that PDM is fostering. Her journey serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with the right support and mindset, economic transformation is possible.
