Office of the National Chairman (ONC) under the stewardship SPA/PA, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo is set to host a massive street Iftar for fasting Muslims and non Muslims in Kampala on Thursday, March 20, 2025 starting from 3pm.
Speaking at a press conference this afternoon at her offices in Kyambogo, Hajjat Namyalo confirmed that the event, set to take place during the Holy Month of Ramadan, is intended to gather hundreds of fasting Muslims for a communal Iftar to break their fast. The initiative is part of ONC’s continued efforts to support the Muslim community during this fasting period.
“We are creating an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come together, share a meal, and gain knowledge. This has been done in Mecca, Saudi Arabia but now it is coming to Kampala” she said.
“Ramadan is a time for reflection, prayer and unity and as Office of the National Chairman, we are honoured to host this Street Iftar and we hope it brings people together in the spirit of compassion and faith. The event is free, open to all and non-partisan, with the primary focus on fostering a sense of togetherness and spirituality among Muslims and non Muslims” she added.
Organised under theme” Abaavu Tweyambe” the street Iftar will be held in downtown Kampala with multiple food stations/serving points set up along Buganda Road, City Square leading to Central Police Station (CPS), which will serve as the central hub for the event.
According to the ONC boss, this has been done to help the less fortunate, with a special focus on providing meals to those who may not have access to adequate food during Ramadan.
“All stakeholders who have come on board are welcome. Let us all come together, irrespective of our political beliefs, because poverty has no colours. All Bazzukulu are welcome” she noted.
Hajjat Namyalo further revealed that preparations for the much anticipated event have already kicked off and her office has partnered with several stakeholders including; Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Uganda Police, mosques around Kampala among other stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination and a successful event.
Meanwhile, security and logistical arrangements have been finalized to guarantee the safety and comfort of the large crowds expected to attend. Authorities, particularly Uganda Police, have pledged their support for the event and have committed to providing traffic management and crowd control.
The street Iftar is expected to draw large crowds from around Kampala and will not only feed those in need but also strengthen the bonds within the Muslim community as they observe this sacred time of the year.
Apart from organizing the Street Iftar, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, who also serves as the Special Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, has been leading extensive relief distribution campaigns for hundreds of fasting Muslims throughout Kampala.
Last week, the campaign, which began at Masjid Katangawuzi in Nansana, expanded to Masjid Taqwa in Kakiri and concluded at Masjid Saeed Al Majdour in Kasangati, where large quantities of essential food supplies were distributed.
The relief packages included staples such as rice, posho, spaghetti, sugar, beans, cooking oil, and milk, ensuring that Muslim families can observe their fasts without facing food insecurity or hunger.
