Delay in Release of Semester Results Sparks Concerns for UCU Mbale Campus Graduates*
- Graduating students at Uganda Christian University’s Mbale Campus are facing an unsettling predicament as they prepare to step into the next phase of their lives. The delay in the release of last semester’s results, attributed to administrative issues at the Mukono Campus, has left both students and parents anxious about the implications on graduation.
Despite the usual anticipation surrounding the graduation season, a cloud of uncertainty hovers over these students who are set to graduate without knowing their final semester results. This unprecedented situation has triggered concerns among parents who are now calling on the government to intervene.
Parents, who have been consistently paying zero fees for their children due to government sponsorship, are expressing frustration over the unexpected delays and the potential repercussions for their wards. Many families rely on the timely completion of academic programs to plan for the future, and any hindrance in this process raises questions about the effectiveness of the higher education system.
One of the parents, Mrs. Namugerwa, voiced her concerns, stating, “We understand the challenges that may arise, but our children have worked hard, and it’s disheartening to see them graduate without knowing their final results. This could affect their opportunities for further studies or employment.”
The delay has also brought financial implications, as parents are required to pay surcharges for any delays in the academic calendar. The added financial burden on families who have been accustomed to the government-sponsored education model is causing distress and prompting them to seek government intervention.
The University administration has acknowledged the situation and assured affected students and parents that efforts are underway to resolve the issue swiftly. However, the lack of a concrete timeline for the release of the results has fueled anxiety and fueled calls for a more transparent and efficient system.
As graduation day approaches, the spotlight remains on the government and the university administration to address the concerns of the affected students and parents, ensuring that the academic achievements of these graduates are rightfully acknowledged and celebrated.
