Eng. Wambogo John Wekesa, the NRM chairman for Mbale City, on Sunday officially announced his Candidacy for the position of Member of Parliament for Mbale Industrial City Division in the 2026 elections.
He made the declaration while addressing mourners at the burial ceremony of Wanda Moses, the NRM Publicity Secretary for Mbale City, who was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Katwakha Cell, Mutoto Parish, Bukasakya.
Wambogo acknowledged his previous attempt to secure the seat but assured mourners that he is now better prepared to represent them in parliament.
He expressed gratitude for the votes he received in the past and appealed for greater support in the upcoming election.
“During the last campaigns, I emphasized that accessing the national cake, government scholarships, jobs, and social services, it depends on the quality of the MP you send to parliament,” Wambogo said.
He criticized the current MP’s performance, particularly in addressing critical issues like job creation and road infrastructure. “The government allocates UGX 1 billion to every district for road maintenance.
But I passed on this Busano Road coming at the burial but has remained in poor condition due to weak leadership,” he stated.Wambogo pledged to prioritize better roads, education, healthcare, and social services for the people of Mbale Industrial City Division.
“Our people deserve better. They have suffered enough. I am ready to work with the government to secure bursaries for our children and improve service delivery,” he assured. He also appealed to the incumbent MP, Masaba Karim, to step aside, arguing that he has failed to meet the needs of the electorate. “I request my brother Karim to give me a chance to serve our people better,” Wambogo concluded.
