The political landscape of Sironko District shifted irreversibly on the day Mr. Mafabi Sulaiman Lumolo arrived at the NRM Structures Elections venue. Cheers erupted like thunder across the hills of Bugisu. Elders bowed, youth danced, and supporters raised yellow flags as Lumolo stepped out, carried on the shoulders of youthful NRM diehards, a symbol of honor reserved for kings and revolutionaries.
Meanwhile, a silence fell on the opposing camp. Minister Florence Nambozo Wamala, until that moment holding on to hope, made an embarrassing and dramatic retreat from the scene. She fled the venue in full view of supporters, security, and media alike, an act widely interpreted as a symbolic concession of defeat. The writing was on the wall. No amount of propaganda or ministerial privilege could alter the fact that Florence Nambozo faced a people’s wave she could not stop. Her attempt to contest for NRM Chairperson against Mr. Lumolo was not just audacious, it was ill-timed and ill-advised.
Because when Bugisu speaks, it speaks through the voice of truth. And on that day, the people spoke through Lumolo.
Who Is Mr. Mafabi Suleiman Lumolo? In the vibrant valleys and ridges of Bugisu, one name echoes through every marketplace, council hall, and homestead:
Mafabi Suleiman Lumolo. A businessman, community builder, political strategist, and champion of integrity, Lumolo has walked with his people, not above them.
Political Mobilizer and Party Loyalist
Mr. Suleiman Lumolo. A respected businessman, political figure, and community mobilizer, Lumolo has emerged as a silent but formidable architect behind several transformative efforts in the region. He has proved to be a cornerstone of the NRM Party in Sironko.
Lumolo is the first person to offer NRM a permanent office in the whole of Uganda by constructing the first NRM party offices with complete office furniture, and has employed casual workers and managed all the utilities needed to run year after year. He has consistently mobilized for the party, not just with words, but with action. From personally facilitating delegates to national functions to funding their transportation and upkeep, he ensures that Bugisu’s voice is always heard in the corridors of power, without forgetting his contribution to NRM functions within Sironko, where he funds more than half the budget.
Mr. Lumolo has built his legacy not on slogans, but on substance, spearheading the follow-up on the NRM manifesto and Presidential pledges. He is the man who turns pledges into progress, like the Prof Dani Nabudere Memorial Institute in Buyobo sub-county, to championing road infrastructure such as the Nalugugu–Budadiri–Namagumba Road. He was also very instrumental in the establishment of the Wapa Memorial Institute of Nursing and Midwifery in Mafudu sub-county, bringing specialized healthcare training closer to rural youth. His work doesn’t stop at lobbying; he follows through, ensuring that what is promised gets done.
During the 2020 campaigns, he contributed more than 100million the overall money the president had allocated to each village; every village to receive 300,000, however, Mr Lumolo gave the heavily populated villages 600,000 or more. Mr. Lumolo also spearheaded the delivery of the motorcycles and bicycles from the 2020 NRM campaigns. Every NRM sub-county chairperson and NRM LC1 Chairperson of every village in Sironko received theirs. He is the godfather of NRM in Sironko because he has always held NRM reconciliation meeting to create harmony before general elections and moved with all flag bearers from Member of Parliament candidates to the Local government positions like LC5, mayors, LC3, and LC2 flag bearers when conducting general election campaigns for the president, hence giving them a platform to campaign.
In the political Arena of Bugisu and Eastern Uganda, this dedicated NRM Mobilizer Mafabi Sulaiman Lumolo has always politically supported Members of Parliaments in there election, and other smaller positions on the local government by providing campaign funds and mobilizing the right connections in the candidates’ community to campaign for them, including Hon Nambozo Florence Wamala, who was given money during her 2016 campaign and actual mobilization of NRM leaders to campaign for her at the grassroots level.
To increase cohesion in the party, he holds quarterly meetings with opinion leaders, NRM Honorable counselors at the district and the NRM sub-county chairmen, which he always personally funds for the understanding and furtherance of the NRM manifesto, he has empowered people by supporting them in their small-scale business with seed capital, and employing some with in his businesses in Bugisu and Kampala. In addition, the NRM SACCO for the NRM leadership at the district was given seed capital to further empower the NRM leaders in Sironko.
After elections, he has always taken it upon himself to write recommendation letters to the president’s office and other government bodies, to lobby for job opportunities and presidential appointments for the NRM diehards and mobilizers, for example, in NIRA, RDC offices, and also Commissioner roles in government. He has trained the youth in modern farming and intercropping, using his model farm and distributed Heifers to the NRM die heard to increase economic empowerment among the people of Sironko district.
In conclusion, Sironko did not just elect a chairman, it reclaimed a legacy. That legacy rests safely on the shoulders of Mr. Mafabi Suleiman Lumolo, the man who never begged for power because power has always followed him.
The UNOPPOSED CHAIRMAN
He’s not coming to sit in an office, he’s coming to further mobilize, supervise, and increase cohesion of party leadership within Sironko and Bugisu as a whole. Where some use fear, he uses faith. Where others divide, he unites. Where others flee, the people walk with him.
