The Gagama Central Women Savings and Credit Anita Foundation Group, a collective of 55 women from Gagama Central village in Kocheka sub county, has made significant progress in economically empowering its members.
The group did not exist before Speaker Anita Among’s generous support in 2023, but with her Shs.5 million grant, they were able to establish themselves and embark on weekly savings. Over the past year, the group’s accumulative profits enabled members to invest in a sheep-rearing project, and they bought 20 sheep.
The support given by Speaker Anita Among in her capacity as Bukedea district woman MP was a starting point for the group, allowing them to set a foundation to support their families’ income and strengthen their collective growth as a community.
The women are now more empowered, with some starting small businesses, such as selling tomatoes and Omena.”Speaker Anita Among helped us lay a foundation for our group and it acted as an eye opener,” said one member. “We now fight poverty as a group.”
The group also acquired uniforms, which has promoted unity and pride among its members.Rt. Hon. Among’s initiative, targeting one youth and one women’s group per village, has had a profound impact across Bukedea District.
Many groups are starting to give testimonies of positive gains made out of the initiative and commend the futuristic development agenda by Speaker Anita Among.”The initiative has been incredibly beneficial to our community,” said another group member.
“We appreciate Hon. Among’s vision and commitment to empowering women and youth in our district.”The success of the Gagama Central Women Savings and Credit Anita Foundation Group demonstrates the value of targeted support and funding in driving positive change in rural communities.
